Programme Development Timeline
From inception, to consultation and development, to implementation
The MRV for Climate Action programme is part of Canada's 2021-2026 commitment to international climate finance to help developing countries address climate change. A continuation of the previous WA-MRV programme, which facilitated the institutional arrangements and fundamental connectivity necessary to establish sovereign domestic climate MRV systems in 15 West African countries, the goal of this new programme was to deepen bilateral support to 4 ambitious countries and scale-up this effort.
The MRV for Climate Action programme was built around a commitment to country-led actions. The events below were key milestones in the design and implementation of a course of action would address each nation's particular, unique challenges and sovereign development priorities, and facilitate the redirection of their domestic growth pathway for NDC achievement.

OTTAWA, CANADA
OTTAWA ROUNDTABLE, OCTOBER 17-21 2022

Delegations from Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia and Togo travelled to Ottawa, where National Focal Points would work with representatives from NovaSphere and Environment and Climate Change Canada to create a Programme Roadmap that would guide the trajectory of programming over the next four years.
Each partner country would then host a domestic round-table conference, calling on stakeholders to participate in the drafting of a National Evergreen Roadmap.

The programme is dynamic in nature - strategies evolve as the body of research grows and opportunities are identified. Collaboration and exchange of information between partner countries facing similar challenges and focused on comparable priorities facilitates the development of a library of shared knowledge, and a toolkit of tried and tested best practices.
To that end, delegations from the four partner countries continue to meet once a year for a regional strategic forum, where pilot lead coordinators share their successes and lessons learned with their peers, and the host country showcases successful mitigation initiatives.
